Parent Involvement
In this complex world, it takes more than a good school to educate children. It also takes more than a good home. It takes these two major educational institutions working together.
Studies have indicated that children whose parents and/or other significant adults share in their formal education tend to do better in school. All parents want their children to become successful, caring adults. Similarly, many parents want to become involved with the formal education of their children once they reach primary grades. At MLA we believe that the home – school connection should begin in preschool. Sometimes, however, parent don't know where to start, when to find the time, or how to go about making positive connections with the school.
At the most basic level, parents can begin encouraging the education of their children by showing that they truly value education themselves. You will find opportunities to enrich learning experiences by participating in activities at home to reinforce concepts introduced at school. Your child’s teacher will provide you with a monthly calendar to keep you informed of the concepts we are exploring. Progress Reports will be provide for children in PS-3, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten in January and June. Parent meetings are also held to keep parents informed of what is happening both in the classroom and school.
In addition to the above, all MLA families are required to participate in the Parent Service program. Details about the Parent Service Program can be found in the Parent Handbook.
